Disposable diapers are made up of plastic bleach wood pulp gel- like crystals which is very harsh for the baby skin. How Do I Wash Cloth Diapers?
There are many opinions and processes about washing the cloth diapers. It is quite genuine, many mothers have developed their additional steps and routines based on their individual needs for washing the cloth diapers. Here is the method based on the washing instruction of SuperBottom along with my experience of using and washing of fabric diapers. So, here we go for the washing process:
If the diaper is soiled, clean it in running water to remove poop from the diaper.
If the diaper is wet with pee then soak the diapers for 2-3 minutes and take it out.
Now rinse all the poop and pee diapers using a little bit of detergent.
Till this step the process is common for both washing machines and hand wash so that diapers are free from smell and stain. If you skip this process, your washing machine may stink or smell like baby pee.
Hand wash
While washing the diapers with hands, soak the diapers for 20 to 30 mins in detergent water.
Rub it well, till it is completely stain free and smell free. Do not use a brush to clean the diaper or insert.
Rinse thoroughly, do not wring hard and dry the diapers and insert in direct sunlight.
Washing Machine
Dump the slightly washed diapers into the washing machine, and set it to quick wash for 15 to 20 minutes.
Once done, add the detergent and other laundry to wash it for 50 to 60 mins.
Spin dry and you are done.
Note
Do not use Dettol on cloth diaper and inserts.
Do not use any fabric conditioners.
Always use detergent powder and not detergent liquids.
