By 9 months, babies are expert in eating semi solid foods, so introducing them to mashed food and finger food is the right time to start now. If your baby snatches a spoon or grabs some food from the plate, then he/she is ready to eat on their own. It's a good time to encourage your baby to eat finger foods.
It should be noted that breastfeeding or formula milk is still necessary for the nine months babies along with a small portion of solid food. Breastfeeding is necessary until one year to provide all the essential nutrition as well as the hydration to them.
Finger Food
Small pieces of food that can easily be picked up and eaten by the baby themselves are known as finger food. Finger foods can be introduced to a baby's diet from 8-9 months onwards.
Finger foods are mostly to encourage a baby to learn self -feeding and to chew or bite a food. Some babies even without teeth are able to bite with their gums which is good for the development of their speech muscles.
You can give your baby boiled carrot, apple, potato, sweet potato, ripe banana, payapa, or boiled eggs and paneer. Make sure you are there to supervise your baby while he/she is eating on his own in order to avoid any risk of choking.

FEEDING TIPS:
Always use sterilise utensils for feeding your baby.
Always wash the fruits or vegetables well before cooking. Soak the fruits/vegetables in warm water, mix 1tbs baking soda and 1 tbsp salt to it. Keep the soaked fruits/vegetables for half an hour and then use it. We all know the world is suffering from pandemic coronavirus, so we must take necessary guidelines to avoid infections in our family as well as in society.
Introduce food one at a time. Always go slow, week by week, for introducing any new food.
Make sure no sugar and salt in baby food until one year. Palm candy powder can be used in place of sugar which must be minimal in amount.
Always prepare fresh food for your baby. Never use the morning leftover food at night even if you have kept it in the fridge.
Always check the baby food is not so hot while feeding. Sometimes, the spoon is hotter than the food, therefore check the temperature before feeding. We recommend a silicon heat indicator spoon for feeding. You can also try a silicon bottle feeder to ease your baby feeding process.
7. Ensure your baby is not getting allergic to any food. If any allergic symptoms appear, stop feeding that particular food to the baby.
8. Always ask your pediatrician before introducing any meal plan to your little love.
