10 Ways For New Dad to Bond With The Newly Born Baby

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

A baby's life is nurtured in the mother's womb, so it's easy for a mom to establish a bond with her baby. In early days, after childbirth, mom and baby spend a lot of time together while breastfeeding. For a new father, it becomes a bit difficult to make a bond with the newborn baby.

Here are 10 easy ways for new daddy to get bonded with your baby right away.

Skin to Skin Touch

The skin to skin touch for a newborn is quite beneficial, release of love hormone (oxytocin), regulate the temperature, and make the baby feel comfortable and secure. Fathers can easily bond with their baby, giving skin to skin touch, hold your baby closer to your chest and put a blanket to make the baby feel secure. This process not only soothes babies but it's also overwhelming for fathers too, hugging a baby closer to you is quite satisfactory.

Feeding

Fathers can participate in bottle feeding and can also support moms during breastfeeding. Babies need to stay upright after feeding, fathers can take the baby for the burping process while giving some rest to momma and also get some close time with your little one.

While bottle feeding, dad should hold the baby in his lap touching their skin with the baby and looking into the eyes of the baby.

Baby Massage

Babies love the oil massage session, this is the best bonding tip for both mother and a father. Gently rub the baby’s legs, hands, arms, belly and neck, this is a simple way to relax and soothe them.

Give Bath Time

Babies respond to touch right from the mother’s womb. Giving an oil massage and a bath makes the baby feel secure and relaxing while the father can enjoy the baby bath session.

Carry on Baby Carriers

While going out for a walk, fathers should carry the baby in the baby carriers, they can hold the baby for a long time without pain. In baby carriers, the baby feels the warmth of the father's body and feels secure. Baby carriers are designed in such a way that it doesn't feel the weight of the baby. This baby carrier has wide straps and designed in such a way that the baby's weight distributes evenly and you do not feel the pressure of holding.

Make Baby Fall Asleep

Sometimes making a baby fall asleep is a big task. Dad can also participate in making the baby fall asleep or take the night shifts and give mom some extra time to sleep.

Talk to Your Baby

Babies enjoy a lot when adults make funny faces and talk to them. Talk to your newborn, they respond to voices as well.

Sing Lullaby

Dad can sing lullaby to make their baby fall asleep or to play with them. Play soothing music or sing a special song for your baby to connect easily.

Play with Baby

Playing with a newborn is quite overwhelming for both the parents. Dad can also give some tummy time and cycling exercise to the baby while playing.

Dancing

Babies love music and love to see their dad dance. When your baby is just a few weeks old you can have dance parties. When the baby becomes older, hold her hands, help her to stand and dance. She will love to show some moves in music.
